First, trace your image, pattern, or template onto fusible webbing. Cut around the tracing ensuring you leave a small border of webbing surrounding the design. Next, secure the fusible web to your fabric using an iron set to a low heat setting without steam according to package directions, being careful not to exceed the recommended time limit so as not to damage or melt synthetic fibers in some fabrics. After that’s done cut out your appliqué following along the inside edge of the traced lines on the web paper backing. Now it’s time to position and press (again with a dry iron set at low temp) into place on the background garment fabric allowing the area to cool before moving. When ready, stitch the applique design into place utilizing complementary thread color contrast for more definition if desired. Finally, add any additional desired embellishments.
